Modern asphalt

The road is a land-ribbon, used by man for moving people and goods between two places, may present various forms of pavements, from stone to asphalt.
Asphalt is a porous limestone, obviously impregnated with bitumen. The presence of this last component in the rock is due to the residue left by petrol evaporation which previously impregnated it.

Asphalt, such as tar, bitumen and tar pitch , is part of the bituminous material category.

In the XVIII century began the use of asphalt as a building material. The rock was crushed and milled to obtain a mastic, usually supplemented with fine inert material, then was poured hot to pave the sidewalks and streets. Today's building material used for road pavement, is an artificial mix obtain by mixing appropriate quantities of large aggregates (gravel), fine (sand and filler) and bitumen.

The road pavement is formed by a mixture of aggregates and binders. We are talking about mix, if the binder is the bitumen and if it must withstand heavy concentrated loads, wear, deterioration of the physical and chemical agents, thermal expansions and simultaneously allow an excellent tire adherence. Therefore, the road pavement constantly undergoes maintenance.

The road maintenance is essential to guarantee it's accurate functionality according to the different types of pavements.
